Deepawali Special Trains 2013 – Southern Railway

Southern Railway (SR) will run special trains for holiday travelers during the Deepawali/Puja/Dasara festival season of 2013. Here is the list of those trains primarily serving those areas under Southern Railway, Kerala and Tamilnadu. These include trains from Nagercoil to Chennai and Hyderabad and from Trivandrum to Chennai and (surprise, surprise) Bangalore! Click on the train number to view full timetable and more details. Having launched a plethora of new trains recently, SR seems to be facing a serious crunch when it comes to coaches. This is evident looking at the namesake specials they are running using comedy scratch rakes, especially within TN and to Bangalore.

 06314/06313 Trivandrum Kochuveli – Bangalore City – Trivandrum Kochuveli Fortnightly Puja/Deepawali Special (SR)

WHOA! A Bangalore – Trivandrum special train run by SR, that too by the Trivandrum division and again, leaving on a Friday from Bangalore! A miracle no less! The train is a literal crawler, taking 17.5 hours to KCVL and 19 hours while returning! Shares the rake with the 06335/6 KCVL – Dibrugarh special. And a genius configuration of 3 AC coaches, just 4 sleepers and 10 Sitting! Anyway, better than nothing.

06312/06311 Thiruvananthapuram Central – Chennai Central – Thiruvananthapuram Seasonal Weekly Special (SR)

(via Kottayam, Palakkad, Salem) Timetable and Days of Operation

• 06312 Seasonal Special train will leave from Thiruvananthapuram Central TVC Kerala to Chennai Central MAS at 2005 on all Wednesdays (except Jan 29) in October, November, December 2013 and January 2014 (Oct 2 2013 to Jan 22 2014).

• 06311 Seasonal Special train will leave from Chennai Central MAS to Thiruvananthapuram Central TVC at 1815 o­n all Thursdays (except Jan 30) in October, November, December 2013 and January 2014 (Oct 3 2013 to Jan 23 2014).
  Timings: AJJ: 1915, SA: 2320, CBE: 0210, PGT: 0330, TCR: 0505, ERN: 0645, KTYM: 0810, QLN: 1020, arrives TVC at 1145 (Fri).

Composition: 02 AC 2 tier, 02 AC 3 tier, 11 Sleeper Class Coaches, 02 General Second Class, 02 SLRs.

Route and Stoppages: Kollam, Kayankulam, Mavelikara, Chengannur, Tiruvalla, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town (North), Aluva, Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem Jn, Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Arakkonam. Perambur (06312 only).

Utilizes the idle rake of 16331/16332 TVC – CSTM weekly express which used to run the now-discontinued 16321/2 TVC – SBC weekly. The train will run the whole season until Jan 22/23, which could be taken as a new train regularization attempt in the next budget.
