Sabarimala Season Special Trains 2022-23

The Sabarimala pilgrimage season to the famed mountain-top shrine in southern Kerala falls during the months of November, December and January every year. The temple sees lakhs of visitors from primarily the south Indian states. Like every year all three southern zones of the Indian Railways are running a slew of special trains to Kerala during the Sabarimala pilgrimage season of 2022-23.
Sabarimala season special trains for 2023-23 mostly originate from Chennai, Hyderabad and northern Karnataka. All special trains terminate at Kollam Jn with the exception of one. The destinations for Sabarimala pilgrims to Kerala are Chengannur, Kottayam and Ernakulam in order of importance. Pilgrims proceed to Sabarimala by road from these rail heads.
This is also the first major pilgrimage season after 2019-20 and the COVID season and also the first pilgrimage season after the completion of doubling of the Kottayam railway line.
Fare for Sabarimala special trains: All these trains are “special fare specials”. That is, they are charged a special ticket rate” at 1.3 (30% extra) of the normal fare on the corresponding route for all classes.

Sabarimala season special trains will run from Chennai Egmore MS to Kollam QLN from November 20 to January 29 three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Their timetables and schedules are nearly the same as shown in the table below. These trains run via Salem and Coimbatore.

06064, 06066, 06062 Sabarimala special trains will run on all Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays respectively from November 17 2022 to January 26 2023. Schedule: Depart from Kollam QLN at 0845, from Chengannur CNGR 0950, from Kottayam KTYM at 1047, from Ernakulam ERN at 1200 to arrive Chennai Egmore MS at 0350 via Coimbatore, Salem the next day morning.

06067/06068 Ernakulam – Chennai Tambaram – Ernakulam Sabarimala special via Punalur (SR)
This is the first ever train from the Delta districts of Tamil Nadu and via the Main Line (Villupuram – Chidambaram – Mayiladuthurai – Kumbakonam – Tanjavur – Trichy) to south and south central Kerala! Sabarimala pilgrims can access the way to the shrine from two points: at Punalur or at Chengannur/Kottayam. This is a very promising train that will run full the year round as it connects several points between the two states that see massive traffic among them. UPDATE: Southern Railway has cancelled the last three trips of this train! Typical! Maybe it was hurting the private bus lobby too much.
