Summer Special Trains 2014 via Konkan Railway, Kerala and Tamil Nadu
Indian Railways have announced relatively few summer holiday special trains to Kerala and on the Konkan Railway this year in 2014. Central Railway has announced some special trains on the Konkan (Karnataka) from Mumbai to Goa and onwards to Mangalore and Kerala. Southern Railway will run some joke train for the sake of it including Premium special trains from Trivandrum to Chennai and Delhi and a normal express from Chennai to Tirunelveli via Salem. But as it is always, there is no special train on one of the most in-demand routes in the country, from Kerala to Bangalore. This is a route where people are ready to pay anything to travel, and even a premium special train on the Bangalore – Ernakulam route would’ve sold out in a matter of hours, minting money for the railways. But then, the private bus mafia has to prosper, right? Who cares a damn about the people who are suffering.
Here are the details of summer holiday special trains run by Indian Railways on the Konkan Railway route (by Central Railway) and through Tamil Nadu and between TN and Kerala by Southern Railway. Click on the train number to view details of the special trains such as timetable, seat availability etc. Funnily, Trivandrum division seems to be running all the premium trains for SR this time, though they are all flops.

The record setting longest-distance covering special train is back, this time as an all-General Unreserved one! This train will consist of only General coaches with no reservation, obviously aimed at the huge migrant laborer populations in Kerala and TN.
